Program Descriptions

Pre-K/K

Coaches focus on building young wrestlers’ confidence and skills with basic wrestling moves. Wrestlers gain an understanding how to wrestle a folkstyle match.

Season runs about six weeks, with two practices held each week on Tuesday and Thursday. Parents are welcome to stay for these sessions, but it is not required.

At the conclusion of the PreK/K season, wrestlers have the option to continue by attending the Beginner folkstyle practices for no additional fee. (Please note that the pace and technique of the 1st & 2nd grade room are very typically beyond PreK attention spans, interested Kindergartners typically do ok.  If interested, please contact your coach or email the board LYWAinfo@gmail.com)

***Please note the minimum age for the program is 4 years old prior to the first day of regular season. For liability reasons and the safety of your wrestler, there will be no exceptions.

Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced

Designed for 1st-6th grade wrestlers who want to develop  wrestling skills and advance to the next level. Wrestlers' experience levels vary within this group, and coaches adjust to challenge athletes at different skill levels.

Our full season runs 12-16 weeks, dependent on participation in late-season tournaments. Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

6TH GRADERS

LYWA is a supplement to the middle school wrestling program. You should register for wrestling through your middle school and prioritize middle school practices. In addition, register for LYWA and join us for practice as often as you like. 6th graders can participate on the travel team for dual tournaments; tryouts may be required.

LYWA is free for 6th graders. Contact a Board member for the discount code.

Try It Free – Two free sessions for beginners

LYWA hosts free sessions for first-year wrestlers of all ages (PreK–6th) before the start of the season (at the end of October or beginning of November). 2023 Try-It-Free dates have passed.

Our goal is to introduce new wrestlers to the sport in a fun atmosphere. We focus on getting to know teammates and learning basic wrestling moves that will carry wrestlers into the full-season program. Shorts and t-shirts recommended. Wrestling shoes helpful but not required.

Parents are welcome to stay for these sessions, but it is not required.

There is no need to register for Try-It-Free sessions.
